Dumont is a New Jersey town, though often described as a suburb of New York City, snuggled in northeastern Bergen County. Dumont has history – the early Dutch settlers and Camp Merritt of World War I fame have seen to that. Dumont has a main business district, with little business areas and stores sprinkled throughout the rest of the town. The parks are numerous and clean. The schools are among the best in the county. Places of worship welcome all. The Fire Department, Ambulance Corps, the Department of Public Works, and Police Department are concerned and caring and wonderfully dependable. Dumont is a home town to love and live in with pride.
The Dumont Public Schools serve students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are Grant School (K-5) , Honiss School (K-8), Lincoln School (K-5), Selzer School (K-8). Dumont High School serves all high school students within the borough.

What attracts many residents to Dumont are its medium density residential neighborhoods and pedestrian-friendly downtown. All of this charm is located less than one hour by car from mid-town Manhattan which makes Dumont real estate, highly desirable.

Demarest is a beautiful community with over 1800 homes in our town and a population of approximately 4800. The three "houses of worship" are in lovely buildings. The volunteer Fire Department, which has served the borough since 1894, still stands guard. The Demarest Volunteer Ambulance Squad started in 1961. Its new building was dedicated in 1990 and is located on Wakelee Drive, behind the Post Office. The Demarest Public Library Association was founded in 1964, and is located in the old Methodist Church building on Hardenburgh Avenue. The Peace Site Gazebo, located at the Duck Pond was built in 1986. An ecumenical group of Demarest citizens, who were interested in human concerns and wanted to promote peace in the community and in the world, were instrumental in making the Gazebo a reality. For over 200 years Demarest residents have striven to preserve and protect its beauty. It is truly a wonderful place to live with a variety of homes for sale ranging from quaint ranches to sprawling Colonials. The Alpine County Club, is actually located in Demarest, on Anderson Avenue. Members enjoy golf, tennis, swimming and more at this private club.
Demarest prides itself in its volunteers who make our town a caring and safe community. There are many volunteer opportunities and all efforts are appreciated.
The Borough of Demarest was named for the Demarest family, originally known as the “des Marets”. The Demarest were French Huguenots who moved to Bergen County in the late 1600’s. Dutch traders soon followed and the area began to flourish. On April 8, 1903, the Borough of Demarest was established from part of surrounding Harrington Township. The first mayor of Demarest was John H. Z. Demarest.

Demarest is a quiet community with many parks, as well as a few businesses, which provide locals with the essentials of daily life. It has a full time police force, as well as a fire department and rescue squad.

Demarest Public Schools are top-notch and serve students through eighth grade in County Road School, Luther Lee Emerson School and Demarest Middle School. High school students attend Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest along with students from neighboring Haworth and Closter.

The community has been a quiet and safe enclave through the years. Demarest remains this way today, and its real estate attracts buyers from around the state and beyond.
